The wayfinding system for Expedia Group Headquarters in Seattle celebrates the company’s ethos that travel is a force for good. Using travel and city exploration as a point of inspiration, the wayfinding program is designed to mimic city navigation using street names, addresses, and landmarks throughout the campus providing a systematic approach to finding destinations.
The wayfinding system incorporates mural artwork into the architectural features at key decision-making points to serve as landmarks, aiding in wayfinding and expressing the company’s culture. Exterior signage follows a similar travel-oriented theme. Inspired by a folded map, the articulated panels for directional signage act as a metaphor for the beginning of a journey. The corten steel material for the exterior signage program complements other sculptural forms found in the campus landscape.
Interior wayfinding signage uses a street addressing system for identification of workspaces and conference rooms, integrated into building walls, columns, floors, and organized at major intersections. Typography and graphics are clean and modern to reflect the architectural character of the buildings and the technological nature of Expedia’s business, harkening back to travel through their inspiration from transportation graphics. The resulting wayfinding system transforms the 40-acre Seattle waterfront campus into an engaging journey that embodies exploration and reflects Expedia's travel roots, making navigation both functional and meaningful.
